Marge Willadsen served as BVU head softball coach for 28 years before retiring after the 2008 season. She led the Beavers to 30-win seasons five times and closed out her career ranked eighth among Division III coaches in total victories with 569.

Under her guidance, the program placed in the top-five in the national tournament five times, while winning the school's only team NCAA Championship in 1984. The Beavers finished 29-8-1 overall that season, including a perfect 12-0 mark in conference play, while Marge was named the National Coach of the Year. On the conference level, the team captured six Iowa Conference championships, with Marge being named IIAC Coach of the Year four times.

Willadsen was also named Regional Coach of the Year four times and was voted as National Coach of the Year in 1984 and 1996. Under her guidance, a total of 90 players earned all-conference recognition. She also coached 22 All-Americans, including eight First Team selections. Six individuals were also named Iowa Conference MVPs, including three who were recognized from 1983-85. Although she will be most remembered for her time on the diamond, the long-time coach also helped lead the women's tennis team from 1979-1998 and served the University as assistant athletic director.
