Jesse Schmidt was also a stand-out player on the BVU football team from 2002-05 and was also a member of the Beaver men’s basketball team from 2003-06. On the gridiron, Schmidt put his name in the BVU record books for several receiving marks. He ended his career ranked atop the career charts in catches (132), touchdowns (33) and total yards (2,314). He was a three-time All-IIAC selection. Similar to Martinez, Schmidt also went on to a stellar AFL career. He began with the Quad City Steamwheelers (2007-09) before joining the Iowa Barnstormers (2010-12). He was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2009 for the Steamwheelers and finished his career with the Barnstormers as the franchise’s all-time leading receiver.

On the court for BVU, he was a three-time letterwinner and was part of a conference championship team. He ranked third on the team in scoring as a senior (8.8ppg) and also hauled in 5.5 rebounds per contest. Schmidt graduated from BVU in 2006 with a degree in Business Marketing.
