Jim Ahrens '62 graduated from Sutherland High School in 1958 and entered Buena Vista that fall. He lettered in basketball and was elected co-captain three times. During his career he piled up 1975 points, which set a record for points in a single career.
Other records Ahrens set include: most points made in one game, most rebounds in one season, most rebounds in one game, most free throws in conference play in one season, and most free throws in one conference game. He was selected the Iowa Conference first team, NAIA second team All-American, and Associated Press Little All-American third team.
Ahrens was also president of the Student Iowa State Education Association, and treasurer of the Letterman’s Club. He was also selected to Who's Who in Students of American Colleges and Universities.
