Hall of Fame
A broken ankle took away Art Sutton’s last year of eligibility, but it could not take away his desire to earn a collegiate degree. For three years in the late 1930s, he was an accomplished three-sport athlete and nine-time letter winner. Sutton was a key member of the school's football, basketball, and baseball teams. As a captain of the baseball squad during his junior year, he suffered a career-ending injury sliding into a base.
With his athletic career cut short, Sutton left Buena Vista for a couple of years before returning to campus to earn his degree in 1942. He went on to serve as a high school coach for 15 years before entering the sporting goods industry. Art and his wife Marvel had children: Tom, Cindy, Artie, and Lois.
