The 1992 softball team will mark the second team in program history to be inducted into the BVU Athletics Hall of Fame, following the inaugural 1984 National Championship team that was enshrined two years ago.  This squad finished 29-10 overall and 12-2 in conference play en route to capturing the league's regular season title.  It landed five all-conference players and had a pair of All-American pitchers on its roster.  Those two hurlers – freshman Heather (White) Hupke and sophomore Amy (Haeder) Dettmer – each posted ERA’s for the year under 1.00.  White posted a team-leading 0.47 mark which was best in all of Division III that season.  Dettmer’s 0.87 mark was seventh.  The Beavers outscored their opponents for the year, 150-67.  Andrea Schmidt entered the regionals with a 13-game hit streak and was the team’s leading hitter at .379.

Things started fast for a BVU squad that had finished 13-18-1 a year prior.  It jumped out of the game and won nine of its first 10 games and finished the regular season at 24-8 overall.  It was ranked as high as No. 2 in the NCAA DIII Coaches Association in the regular season.  It went a perfect 3-0 in regional play right here in Storm Lake, topping Simpson in the opener, 6-1, before taking two wins over Luther (2-0 and 7-5) to advance into the national championships held in Pella.  BVU later advanced to the semifinals with a commanding 8-0 shutout of Montclair St. in their first game before falling into the losers bracket following a tough 3-2 setback against Trenton State, which finished the year 42-2.  BVU would have another crack at Trenton after a 1-0 thriller over Montclair St. and would need two straight wins to claim the title.  It would, however, come up short and finished as national runners-up after a tough 4-0 loss that saw them finish with only one hit.  Head coach Marge Willadsen was named the Iowa Conference Coach of the Year for the third time and NCAA DIII Regional Coach of the Year for the first time.
