Dr. Randy Braden was a four-year letterwinner in basketball, earning all-conference accolades twice and MVP honors once, and he played on the Iowa Conference Championship team in 1975-76.  As a freshman, he broke a school record with 405 total points, including one 39-point performance, and when he graduated was one of four members in the 1,000-point club.  Braden was a two-year letterwinnner in baseball and member of the 1974 conference championship team.

A 1976 graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education/PE, he began his career in the Van Meter Community School District where he served as a teacher/coach for seven years.  He then moved into a career in administration where he served a combined 13 years as K-6 Principal at two different school districts.  He continued on in the path of administration, serving as Superintendent at Eagle Grove for five years (1996-2001) before holding the same position at Vinton-Shellsburg from 2001 until his retirement in 2009.
