Hall of Fame
Lewis was a four-year letterwinner in track and field for the Beavers
and remains the indoor school-record holder in the pole vault at
15’6” – a height he set in 1989. A year later, he set the mark in the
outdoor event by clearing 15’9”.
A Mason City High School graduate, Lewis was a three-time
Iowa Conference champion (1987-89) and a runner-up in 1990. He
was a two-time national qualifier during the indoor season and was
a four-time qualifier for the outdoor championships. As a junior,
he became the program’s first All-American after placing fourth at
the NCAA Indoor Championships before taking sixth a year later at the NCAA Outdoor
Championships. He also placed 12th at the 1987 Outdoor Championships and took ninth atthe 1990 Indoor Championships.
Lewis graduated from Buena Vista with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and
is a self-employed farmer in the Mason City area. He was also an integral part of setting
up the first wireless ISP in Mason City.
