Hall of Fame
Carney was a two-sport athlete for BVU, earning four letters in basketball
and three in track and field. On the court, she was a two-year captain and
was voted on by her teammates as the top defensive player as both a junior
and senior. She was also tabbed as an Academic All-IIAC athlete both years.
On the track, Carney was a two-time national outdoor qualifier in
the 400 meter hurdles, capturing an individual national championship as a
junior and placing sixth as a senior. She was also a member of the 4x400
meter relay team which qualified three times. She remains the school record
holder in the indoor 400 meter dash and 4x400 meter relay, as well as the
outdoor 400 meter hurdles, 4x400 meter relay and the sprint medley relay. She was named the Iowa Conference Outdoor MVP in 2003 and also captured an indoor conference championship in the 400 meter dash as a senior.
Additional academic accolades she attained include: US Track Coaches Association AllAcademic Team (2002 and 2003), NCAA Post-graduate Scholarship Recipient (2003), named the NCAA Woman of the Year for the State of Iowa (2003) and the Iowa Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year (2003). She graduated from BVU with a bachelor of science degree in biology and has been employed by the Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center, Iowa since 2010. She and her husband, Tyler, have two children, Cadence and Dalton.
