Carlos Martinez was a stand-out placekicker not only for the Beavers from 1998-01, but also throughout all of Division III.  He was a three-time All-Iowa Conference selection, voted First Team All-American in 2001 and was named the DIII Kicker of the Year as a junior in 2000.  He finished his career tied for second in DIII history with 48 made field goals, a mark that also set an IIAC record.  He also tied a league record with five made field goals in a single game – four of which came from beyond 40 yards.  His 17 field goals in 2000 was also an IIAC record.  He finished with 251 career points which is second in program history among kickers.  He missed only eight PAT’s his entire career (108-115) and was 48-of-75 in field goal attempts.  As a senior, he also led the IIAC in punting, averaging 40.8 yards per attempt on 54 punts.  He was selected to play in the AZTEC Bowl following his senior year and went on to earn MVP honors.  He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL but would go on to an illustrious playing career in the AFL from 2002-14.  He ranked fifth all-time in league history with 1,177 points, making 76 career field goals and 949 PAT’s.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sports Management from Buena Vista in 2006.
