Jones was four-year letterwinner as a linebacker on the gridiron for the beavers from 1972-75, while also playing one season of baseball. Â During his football career, he was part of Iowa Conference Championship teams in both 1972 and 1973 and the Boot Hill Bowl Championship team of 1975. Â The defensive unit that Jones was a part of in those two conference title season allowed only 11.6 and 11.8 points per game, respectively. Â During his four years, the Beavers went 28-9 overall, including a stellar 8-1 mark in 1973. Â He was tabbed as a First Team All-Conference linebacker in 1974. Â Since graduating from Buena Vista, he has spent the last 35 years as the owner of Jones' Nursery in Storm Lake. Â He has remained active and supportive in BV athletics, serving as an assistant football coach from 1976-81 and has assisted with the BVU football chain crew for many years. Â Jones also served as the co-chair for the Hershberger Endowment. Â He and his wife, Diane, have two children, Ben and Jenny.
