Trisha Westphal Named BVU Assistant Women's Soccer Coach

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Jan. 27, 2025) - Buena Vista University head women’s soccer coach Mauricio Lozada has announced the hiring of Trisha Westphal as the program’s new full-time assistant coach.

Lozada, who just completed his second season at BVU this past fall, did not have to look far to find the program’s first full-time assistant coach since he took over. Westphal has been a varsity starter for the Beavers the last three seasons and is someone that Lozada says will relate well to prospective student-athletes.

“I’m beyond excited to have Trisha joining our staff and for the energy she’ll add to the program,” says Lozada. “As someone who has been extremely involved with various trips and activities on campus during her time here, she will bring a tremendous amount of knowledge, leadership, and such a wonderful first-hand experience as it pertains to all of the different opportunities that BVU has to offer both on and off of the field.”

Westphal appeared in 40 career matches and served primarily as the team’s starting goalkeeper, recording over 300 career saves. She played a key role this past fall as the team won seven matches which tied for the third-most for a single-season all-time.

Trisha relates extremely well with our returners and will be able to guide and push our newcomers in a direction to keep building on the program’s recent success. She is such a natural leader, which has been evident from her time on campus as a student-athlete. This is such an exciting time to be a part of BVU women’s soccer, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
