Two Late Goals Lift Women's Soccer to 2-1 Victory in Home Opener

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Aug. 31, 2025) - Bridggett Gonzalez and Bailey Gibbons each found the back of the net just two minutes apart during the game's final seven minutes to help lift the Buena Vista women's soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 victory in its home opener over Hesston College on Sunday morning.

Hesston broke a scoreless contest early in the second half with a goal during the 58th minute. BVU had scoring opportunities early in the half as well but couldn't break through until Gonzalez punched through her first collegiate goal early in the 83rd minute before Gibbons converted a successful corner kick from Addison Baucom for her second goal of the year to give the Beavers their first lead.

The shots for both Gonzalez and Gibbons were their only attempts of the contest as BVU totaled seven overall. Hailey Chambers led the way with a game-high three attempts, including one attempt on-goal.

Sophomore Maia Jaroch and freshman Macy Palmer combined for the shutout. Jaroach played the entire first half before giving way to Palmer for the second. Defenively, the Beavers held the Larks to only two shots on the day with one resulting in goal.

Buena Vista improves to 2-0 on the year and will stay at home to host Dakota Wesleyan University on Tuesday, Sept. 2, for a non-conference match starting at 7 p.m.
