DUBUQUE, Iowa (Feb. 27, 2026) - The Buena Vista men's wrestling team was in action on Friday for the NCAA Lower Midwest Regionals, and senior Tyler Japp (125lbs) is the lone Beaver wrestler to advance to Saturday.

Japp earned a bye in the first round and then advanced into the quarterfinals with a huge 20-2 technical fall in four minutes over Simpson's Brody Hufford. He would, however, fall into the consolation side of the bracket after losing by fall against top-seed Brayden Parke of Coe College. He landed a spot into Saturday after winning by forfeit and will now face Shelton Chastain from the University of the Ozarks. That winner advances to the consolation semifinals with the loser wrestling for seventh place.

Senior Trevor Kruse (184lbs) also advanced into the quarterfinals after dismantling Nawab Singh from the University of the Ozarks by fall late in the second period with the score tied at 6-6. He then fell into the consolation bracket after losing by fall in the quarterfinals against second-seed Landry Barker from Loras, and then was eliminated after dropping the consolation match by an 11-1 major decision.

Freshman Ben Bouaphakaeo (149lbs) dropped his first match of the day by fall but then bounced back to win by a second period fall. His tournament would then come to an end in the second round of consolations with a tough loss by fall despite only trailing 8-5 midway through the second period. Fellow freshman LaTravion Agu (157lbs) notched a win in his first consolation match with a commanding 23-7 technical fall early in the second period.

Senior Hayden Stout (165lbs) also went 1-2 in his final competition. He would drop his opening match and then bounce back in the first round of consolations with a 19-6 major decision. His career came to a close after suffering a 14-4 major decision.

The Beavers scored 20 team points on the day and are in 14th out of the 18 teams.

All of Saturday's action inside of the Five Flags Center is set to begin at 10 a.m.
