DUBUQUE, Iowa (Feb. 28) - Buena Vista senior Tyler Japp closed out his collegiate career on Saturday afternoon by placing eighth at the NCAA DIII Lower Midwest Regional Tournament inside of the Five Flags Center.

Japp began the final day of action by dropping a tough 16-1 technical fall against fourth-seed Shelton Chastain from the University of the Ozarks. Chastain led only 3-0 after the first period but began to pull away in the second as he tacked on five more points to lead 8-0. He then added a pair of takedowns and a two-point near fall before Japp was able to get an escape late in the period for his only point.

That loss pushed Japp into the seventh place match against Cole Blalock from Huntingdon. Blalock got two quick takedowns, sandwiched around an escape by Japp, and led 6-1 midway through the opening period. Japp was able to get a second escape and then followed that up with a takedown and a two-point nearfall to take a 7-6 lead with under 50 seconds left. He was unable to ride out Blalock who regained the lead at 8-7 with a reversal in the closing seconds of the period. Blalock then took Japp down to begin the second period and would go on to win by fall in 3:43.

Japp closes out his senior season with a career-high 15 wins.
