ORANGE CITY, Iowa (Sept. 9) - The Buena Vista men's golf team saved its best round for the last as the Beavers turned in a final round score of 299 and moved up to finish 13th overall among the 18 teams in the field as it competed in the 36-hole Siouxland Invite that wrapped up on Tuesday at Lansmeer Golf and Country Club. The first two rounds were played at The Ridge Golf Course in Sioux Center.
Junior
Gabe Kramer and senior
Kaleb Sander each fired final rounds of 73 on the day to close out the tournament. Kramer finished his round in style by notching an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole. He also birdied the par-5 10th hole which was his first of the day while also notching birdies on the par-5 15th and par-4 sixth holes. Sander, meanwhile, also had three birds and an eagle during his round. He began on the back nine and picked up his eagle on the par-5 12th hole. As he reached the front nine, he strung together three birdies over a four hole stretch and had pars on three of his final four holes.
Senior Mathew Turpen had three birdies and turned in a solid round of 76 while senior
Mason Laven had two birdies during a round of 77.
Kramer led BVU with a tie for 47th place overall and was only 10 strokes from a top-20 spot. Turpen and Laven were each seven strokes behind and was tied for 62nd. Sander's big final round moved him up to 74th.
A total of 91 golfers made up the field with Hasting College's Ryker Dunkley taking the medalist honors after shooting a 5-under 66 and winning by one stroke over Northwestern College's (IA) Axton Miller and Morningside's Dylan Welford.
The Beavers tied with Concordia University (NE) overall with an overall 36-hole score of 954. Hastings turned in a big final round of 276 to overcome Morningside and finish four strokes clear of the Mustangs at 875.
Buena Vista will continue its fall schedule by playing in the Loras College Invite on Sunday, Sept. 14 and Monday, Sept. 15 at The Meadows Golf Course in Asbury, Iowa.
