Men's Golf Battles a Tough Wind; Dips to 8th at A-R-C Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa (Apr. 28, 2025) - The American Rivers Conference Men's Golf Championships continued on Monday with round two at Glen Oaks Country Club, and all golfers were forced to battle through the tough wind conditions which resulted in higher scores than Sunday's opening round. Buena Vista ended the day with a 330 and dips three spots down to eighth.

Despite the drop, the Beavers, who began the day tied for fifth with Loras, are only three strokes behind the Duhawks for seventh and eight behind Wartburg College for sixth. Central College is 12 shots clear and in fifth.

Following a three-over par 74 during his opening round, junior Mason Laven finished Monday's round with only one birdie and carded an 84 which pushes him down to into a three-way tie for 16th. Fellow junior Matthew Turpen also birdied the par-5 11th hole along with Laven and had the biggest jump for the Beavers, moving up 11 spots to 12th after a round of 78.

Both Laven and Turpen remain in strong contention to earn all-conference honors which go to all golfers who finish in the top-10. Laven is just three shots back with Turpen one stroke closer. The duo are both within five shots of the top-5 heading into the final 18 holes on Tuesday.

Gabe Kramer and Kaleb Sander rounded out the scoring with rounds of 84 and 87, respectively, with Sander posting the team's other birdie of the day which came on the par-4 12th hole. Reid Hany closed out the line-up for the team with a 91.

The University of Dubuque maintains its spot atop the overall team leaderboard at 608. The Spartans are 11 shots clear of second-place Luther College and 13 in front of Nebraska Wesleyan which sits third. Dubuque's Carter Ruegsegger, who fired a 2-under 69 on Sunday, shot a 1-over 37 on the back nine on Monday to bounce back from a 40 on the first nine holes to turn in a 77 and remain in first by three shots over Wartburg's Josh Nichols.

Final round action will tee-off at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 29.
