Storm Lake, Iowa — It was a milestone weekend for the Buena Vista University Archery Program as they hosted their first-ever BVU Outdoor Archery Camp and Outdoor Tournament, bringing together archers from across the region for two days filled with learning, competition, and community.
On Saturday, April 26, BVU welcomed 14 young archers from NASP, 4-H, S3DA, NFAA, and JOAD programs to campus for the inaugural BVU Outdoor Archery Camp. Throughout the day, campers received hands-on coaching from BVU student-athletes and coaches, learning new skills and drills to help sharpen their technique and grow their confidence on the range.
One of the highlights of the camp was a fun and challenging team activity where campers worked together to “draw” either a number or letter using only arrows shot down range. Campers also were challenged to pop balloons tied to moving strings in the wind. The windy conditions added an extra layer of difficulty, but the archers embraced the challenge with laughter, focus, and determination — embodying the spirit of teamwork that BVU Archery proudly promotes.
Following the excitement of camp day, the momentum continued into Sunday, April 27, as BVU Archery hosted its first-ever BVU Outdoor Archery Tournament. Eight BVU Archery Team members competed alongside area archers in a morning filled with strong competition and great sportsmanship. Despite windy conditions, all participants showcased incredible resilience and adaptability, shooting strong scores and celebrating personal victories.
