Storm Lake, Iowa (September 2025) – Members of the Buena Vista University Archery Team showcased their leadership and commitment to community this past weekend at the
2025 Minnesota 4-H Shooting Sports State Shoot, where they volunteered, competed, and made a lasting impact despite challenging weather conditions.
A group of
10 BVU Archery student-athletes traveled north to assist with both target and 3D archery events, working directly with youth from across the state. Braving rain and chilly temperatures, the students encouraged participants, guided them through competition, and represented BVU with pride.
"Our archers didn't just show up, they showed heart," said
Conner Ellinghuysen, BVU's Head Archery Coach. "They embraced the spirit of service and leadership that defines our program, making a difference for the next generation of young archers."
Among the volunteers was Freshman
Jaime Pouliot, who also competed at the state shoot. In addition to her strong performance on the range, Pouliot served as a
State Ambassador, balancing the demands of competition with the responsibilities of leadership and mentorship.
"The weather may not have been ideal, but the energy and commitment of our archers shone through," Ellinghuysen added. "They remind us that teamwork and perseverance create moments that matter both on and off the range."
The Minnesota 4-H Shooting Sports State Shoot is one of the largest 4-H youth development events in the region, drawing participants and volunteers from across the entire state of Minnesota.
For BVU's Archery Team, the event reinforced its mission to support not only collegiate competition but also the growth of archery at the youth and community levels.
