TOPEKA, Kan. (February 23, 2020) - The Buena Vista baseball team pushed its early season record to 3-0 on Sunday afternoon after completing its three-game weekend sweep of Hamline by notching a 4-2 victory at the Bettis Sports Complex.
Junior
Nick Henrichs doubled, homered and drove in a pair for BVU as
Ryley McGregor collected two hits and
Tyler Stoltze drove in two runs.Â
Casey Hendricks notched the win after going three innings, scattering seven hits and allowing two earned runs. He also struck out four.Â
Devon Van Houten came in out of the bullpen and pitched three hitless innings while
Calvin Harris made his collegiate debut by going the next two innings and allowing one hit and striking out two. Senior
Gage Smart earned the save by working a scoreless ninth and striking out one.
Stoltze drove in the game's first run in the first inning with a sacrifice fly. Hamline later went in front, 2-1, with an RBI double in both the second and third innings. Henrichs blasted a two-run homer in the fourth for his first round-tripper of the year and the sixth of his career to give the Beavers the lead back for good. Stoltze singled home an insurance run later in the inning for the game's final run.
The Beavers (3-0) will return back to the Bettis Sports Complex in Topeka, Kan., next weekend where they will play four games against Grinnell College. First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m.
