STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 7, 2026) - A new weekly recognition on campus for Beaver Athletics this season is the Pizza Ranch Player of the Week. BVU sophomore volleyball player Charley Hernandez is the inaugural recipient of this award for the period ending Sunday, Sept. 6.
This weekly award is being sponsored by the Storm Lake Pizza Ranch and is selected each week by the BVU Athletics Communications staff based on the overall performances from the previous week.
Hernandez helped lead the Beaver volleyball team to a perfect 4-0 start to the season with wins over Knox College, Benedictine University, Bethany Lutheran College and Concordia-Chicago during the Concordia-Chicago Invite held on Friday, Sept. 4 and Saturday, Sept. 5
For the week, the outside hitter:
- Led the Beavers with 50 kills and only 5 errors for a .429 attack percentage
- Her .429 percentage currently leads all players in the A-R-C and her 4.17 kills/set is 2nd.
- Had three double-doubles (kills-digs) in the four matches
- Her 18 kills during a 3-0 win over Concordia-Chicago to wrap up the week tied for the sixth-most for a 3-set match in program history.
