RIVER FOREST, Ill. (Sept. 5, 2026) - The Buena Vista volleyball team remained unbeaten to start the year after notching 3-0 sweeps on Saturday over both Bethany Lutheran College and Concordia-Chicago to close out the Concordia-Chicago Invite.
Sophomore
Charley Hernandez had a big day to lead the Beavers by combining for 28 kills and 22 digs on the day and a pair of double-doubles. She turned in a season-high 18 kills during the win over the host Cougars which is tied for the program's sixth-highest total in a three-set match in history.Â
BVU was dominant from start to finish against Bethany Lutheran by rolling to a 25-12 win in the opening set followed by 25-19 and 25-10 victories to close things out. Aside from Hernandez, freshmen
Jocelyn O'Neal turned in nine kills while Nora Knoz added six. Konz also posted a team-leading 15 digs. The setting duo of
Merced Ramirez and
Anabel Seaman dished out 19 and 12 assists, respectively, as the Beavers had 40 kills and only 13 errors en route to a .281 attack percentage.
In the finale with the Cougars, it was a dominant start to the offensive attack as BVU came out in set one with 15 kills and no errors while posting a percentage of over .500 en route to a 25-8 triumph. The second set proved to be a bit closer at 25-20 before the Beavers capped things off with a 25-10 win in the third.
Hernandez had 18 kills and no errors on 32 total swings for a .563 percentage. Konz followed with seven kills and nine digs,
Reese Nieuwenhuis had six kills and
Hope Vanderlinden added five kills and no errors. Overall, the team finished with a season-high 43 kills and only six errors for a .389 final percentage. Seaman had a career-high 20 assists while
Kaylee Wray registered 17 digs.
Buena Vista improves to 4-0 and travels to Faith Baptist Bible College on Tuesday, Sept. 8, for a 6 p.m. non-conference match.
