STORM LAKE, Iowa (Apr. 28, 2026) - The Buena Vista men's tennis team closed out its season in a big way on Tuesday afternoon by holding off Martin Luther College, 4-3, on Corn Dog Night out at the Buntrock Tennis Courts.

Free corn dogs were handed out to the first 100 fans in attendance at the match in what has become an annual event at one of the team's final home matches.

The Beavers got off to a strong start in doubles play by winning both No. 1 and No. 2 by identical 6-1 scores. The Knights came away with wins at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles before BVU closed things out by winning three of the final four singles matches. Bryson Fredericksen squeaked out a thrilling three-set tiebreaker victory at No. 3 with Jeb Bathrick and Owen Stansberry notching straight set wins. The team's only setback in that stretch was a tough three-set tiebreaker at No. 4.

I can't say enough about the bounce back of our team tonight. After a tough 4-3 loss yesterday, you sometimes wonder how your team is going to bounce back, and we came out strong in doubles and used that to finish off our singles matches.
BVU head coach Brett Groen

Buena Vista ends its season at 6-13 overall. The match wraps up the career of Bryson Fredericksen who was the lone senior on this year's roster.

“Bryson, after dropping a tough three-set match on Monday, came out and absolutely dominated in his third set tonight picking up a crucial win to put us back in the match," added Groen.
