Men's Tennis Falls to Kohawks in Final A-R-C Match

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Apr. 25, 2026) - The Buena Vista men's tennis team returned home on Saturday to host Coe College in the final American Rivers Conference outing of the year, but it was the Kohawks (15-5, 7-1 A-R-C) who hung on two win a pair of thrilling doubles matches that helped lift them to a 7-0 victory over the Beavers.

Both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles match-ups came down to the wire with the Kohawks eventually holding on to win 6-4 and 7-5, respectively. That momentum carried over into singles play as they captured wins at No. 1 and No. 2 without allowing a single point.

Bryson Fredericksen battled at No. 3 but came up short, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 5, Jeb Bathrick tried to stay alive in the second set and force a tiebreaker but came up short, 6-1, 6-3. Owen Stansberry came on strong at No. 6 before being edged, 6-4 and then falling 6-1 in the second set.

“It's really no surprise that they're ranked nationally and one of the top six teams in all of the Midwest,” says BVU head coach Brett Groen. “They just take care of and cover every single base on the tennis court and really force you to try to over hit to win points. The more that you  typically try to overhit, the more trouble you probably get into, and the exploited that today.”

Buena Vista ends conference play at 1-7 and fall to 5-12 overall. The team will wrap up its season with a pair of non-conference home matches to begin next week starting against Crown College on Monday, Apr. 27 at 3 p.m.
