SAUGET, Ill. (March 7, 2026) - The Buena Vista baseball team rallied back from an early deficit to tie the game in the fifth inning, but it was North Park University going on to score five times in the seventh inning to get past the Beavers, 14-9, on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore
Kaden Struck belted his first home run of the season in the top of the first inning to give BVU the early 2-0 lead. North Park, however, came right back in the bottom half and roughed up starter
Carson Brachtel by scoring four times on just one hit.
Both team scored a run in the second before NPU extended its lead to 8-3 after adding three more runs in the third. The Beavers came all the way back to tie things up with five runs of their own in the fifth inning. Freshman
JD Schneider came on as a pinch hitter capped the scoring with a big 2-run single through the left side. Junior
Brandon Jenkins also added an RBI single earlier in the inning with junior
Jake Eddie being hit by a pitch that also drove in a run.
North Park (4-5) regained the lead in the bottom half of the fifth with a single run before BVU again pulled even in the sixth by scoring on a wild pitch. It was all Vikings after that with a five-run seventh inning that included a pair of two-run singles. The Beavers left the bases loaded in the eighth and then were retired in order in the ninth to end the game.
Sobeck finished 2-for-3 with two walks, two RBI and three runs scored to lead BVU. Struck and Jenkins also added two hits.
Logan Lape-Brinkman suffered the loss in relief. He was the third pitcher used on the day and worked 3.0 innings, allowing three runs and three hits while striking out four and walking four.
Buena Vista (2-6) will now face UW-La Crosse on Sunday at 11 a.m..
