MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 6-8, 2026) - The Buena Vista University archery team delivered an impressive performance at the NFAA Indoor Nationals in Memphis, Tennessee, highlighted by multiple podium finishes, personal-best performances, and a strong display of resilience and team unity.
The Beavers traveled a total of 1,794 miles, using 179 gallons of fuel along the way, but made every mile count as they competed on one of the nation's biggest indoor stages.
BVU saw standout success in the Collegiate Bowhunter Female Division, where freshman Jaime Pouliot captured a second-place finish and junior Gracy Elsenbast followed closely with a third-place finish. Both archers achieved personal record scores during the competition, showcasing their growth and preparation.
On the men's side, freshman Conner Johnson continued his strong collegiate debut, earning a third-place finish in the Collegiate Bowhunter Male Division. Sophomore Ethan Stemper narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth after a competitive showing.
Another highlight came from Joe Knieper, who demonstrated resilience and composure after experiencing an equipment malfunction on Saturday. Knieper rebounded on Sunday with a perfect score of 300.
Beyond individual results, the tournament served as an important milestone for the BVU Archery program. The team recorded numerous personal-best scores and competed confidently against archers from across the country.
The trip also provided opportunities for team bonding and personal growth. Athletes spent time exploring Memphis, strengthening relationships, and building connections with fellow competitors from across the archery community.
Head Coach Conner Ellinghuysen praised the team's effort and character throughout the weekend.
"We're incredibly proud of how our team showed up to compete and support one another," Ellinghuysen said. "They demonstrated resilience, focus, and what it truly means to be a BVU archer. This group continues to grow, and we're excited about what's ahead."
With a strong showing at nationals and continued momentum throughout the season, BVU Archery looks forward to building on this success in upcoming competitions.
