Women's Soccer Starts Fast during 5-0 Home Win over Spurgeon

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Oct. 3, 2026) - With a large contingent of alumni in the stands helping to cheer it on, the Buena Vista women's soccer team came out strong against visiting Spurgeon College on Saturday afternoon en route to a 5-0 Homecoming victory inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium.

Freshman Brynn Pfeffer had a career-night to help highlight the game for the Beavers, scoring her second career goal and dishing out a career-high two assists. She put BVU on the board late in the 13th minute, and the Beavers went on to score three times over a two-minute span.

Sophomore Macey Soltis doubled the BVU lead with her first career goal straight on from 10 yards out off an assist from Megan Rowedder while freshman Alohilani Kaloala-Maraquin turned in her second to make it 3-0.

Freshman Lindsey Brunell scored BVU's first goal of the second half with her first career-goal off a nice feed from Pfeffer before freshman Lucy  Elsener capped the scoring with a goal during the 58th minute off an assist from Pfeffer.

Pfeffer turned in a career-high eight total shots with six coming on-goal to lead the Beaver offensive attack. Elsener added five shots with four on-goal. BVU kept on the attack all evening and turned in 22 total shots (16 on-goal) while holding the Knights to only six.

Freshman Danae Thayer made her first career start in-goal and played the first half. Junior Maia Jaroch took over at the start of the second half and made six saves, as the duo notched its first combined shutout.

Buena Vista improves to 2-5-1 overall and now begins American Rivers Conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Simpson College. Kickoff down in Indianola is at  5 p.m.
