Cardinals Edge Women's Soccer 1-0

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 27, 2026) - The Buena Vista women's soccer team hosted Saint Mary's University (MN) in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium, but the Cardinals came away with an early second half goal that lifted the Cardinals to a 1-0 victory.

The Cardinals kept the pressure on the Beaver defense throughout most of the match by holding an 18-2  margin in overall shots but BVU keeper Elliana Fantasia played a strong match in-goal with five overall saves. Maia Jaroch came on to play the final 25 minutes and was credited with four saves.

The two teams were deadlocked at 0-0 going into halftime and remained scoreless until the 59th minute when the Cardinals (3-5-1) scored the only goal of the afternoon.

Lucy Elsener gave BVU its best chance at a goal in the first half with the team's only shot-on-goal. Hannah Bradley, who scored the SMU goal, finished with four shots, including four two on target.

Buena Vista falls to 1-5-1 on the year and will wrap up its non-conference slate on Saturday, Oct. 3 by hosting Spurgeon College for Homecoming. Kickoff has been set for 5 p.m and will follow the BVU football game earlier that afternoon.
