Things then shifted over to singles play and remained equally as close. Weller picked up another win at No. 2 in straight sets, 7-5, 5-2 while Peyman and Volkert followed at No. 3 and No. 4 with straight set wins of their own.
Simpson earned wins at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 to complete the victory. The match also ended the fall home schedule for BVU.
“Going in we knew it would be a close matchup, and it did end up coming down to the wire, to the last match, and the difference between winning and losing the meet was literally one deuce point,” said BVU head coach Dan Taylor. "Hannah and Macy played great doubles, carrying over from how they played at the St. Peter Tournament, and pulled out a tiebreak win. Kadyn and Madi also played very well and had opportunities to get a win, but the Simpson players elevated their game at the end and denied us the doubles point, which ended up being huge.
“Macy's outstanding play in doubles carried over into singles and she played a complete match, mixing up consistency with power at the right times. The two freshmen, (Madi & Kadyn) also achieved two conference singles wins and gave us a 3-2 lead going into the final 2 matches. The Simpson 5 and 6 singles players were both good movers and very consistent, not giving us free points, so they were able to come out on top in the end. It was an excellent effort from our ladies, and it's great to see overall continued improvement from match to match.”
Buena Vista moves to 1-6 (1-4 A-R-C) and turns right around to travel to Wartburg College on Thursday, Oct. 1 for a 4 p.m. match before wrapping up conference play on Friday, Oct. 2 with a morning match against Coe College at 10:45 a.m.
