ST. PETER, Minn. (Sept. 28, 2026) - For the first time in program history, the Buena Vista women's tennis team sent individuals to the annual ITA Tournament held at Gustavus Adolphus. Senior
Macy Weller and sophomore
Hannah Higgins each took part as individuals and also teammed up to play in the doubles bracket.
Higgins earned a first round by in her singles bracket and then advanced into the semifinals with a strong 4-1, 4-0 victory over Zara Stolzfus from Loras College. She was aiming for a chance at a championship but came up short in the semifinals after a 3-5, 0-4 loss to Molly Garber from UW-Stout.
Weller, meanwhile, received a bye in the opening round, and then was dealt a heartbreaking three-set tie breaker loss (0-4, 4-2, (7-10 tiebreak) against Anna Vechart from St Norbert College.
In doubles play, the duo dropped a hard fought 8-4 match in round two by Boland/Platt from UW-Eau Claire.
"It was a great experience, and both Hannah and Macy played some of their best tennis of the year against tough competition," said BVU head coach
Dan Taylor. "Hannah had an outstanding win against Loras, playing a complete match and winning with consistency and footwork. Macy was very close to getting a win in her first match, too, doing an outstanding job of bouncing back from a rough first set to take the second set and get it to a tiebreak that was very tight. In doubles, even though they didn't come out on top, they worked really well as a team and did a great job making adjustments and playing even with their opponents after the first three games. Overall it was a great experience to compete in the tournament, and I believe it was a good confidence builder for them as we head into the last two weeks of the fall season."
The two will join the rest of their teammates back on the court weather permitting on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at home against Simpson College. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
