STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 18, 2026) - The Buena Vista women's tennis was back home on Friday afternoon to host the University of Dubuque in an American Rivers Conference match, but a tough Spartans group was a bit too much for the Beavers as they would drop their second straight match overall by a 7-0 margin.

Sophomore Abbey Meseck had the match of the day for BVU but came up just short in a third set tiebreaker. After being shutout in the first set, she bounced back with a strong 6-3 triumph to force the tiebreak but ran out of gas in the end and fell 10-5.

“Dubuque has a lot of experience, and their players are smart and have variety in their games,” said BVU head coach Dan Taylor. “I thought we played pretty well in doubles, ending up with much more competitive sets than a year ago. In singles our ladies put forth a lot of effort and continued fighting, and most of our players improved the score and competitiveness between set one and set two. Abbey especially did well in overcoming a tough first set to win the second and take it to a tiebreak. The ladies will continue improving and gaining experience, and I know they will battle Loras tough tomorrow.”

With the win, the Spartans improved to 5-1 (1-1 A-R-C) while the Beavers fell to 1-4 (1-2 A-R-C). BVU is right back in action on Saturday, Sept. 19 to host Loras College at 10 a.m.
