Buena Vista made 30 field goals and shot 48 percent overall which was its highest single-game total since making 43 during its lopsided win over Faith Baptist in the second game of the year.
The Beavers led 19-11 after the first quarter and used a 52 percent shooting effort in the second to extend the margin to 38-24 at the half. The sharp shooting carried over into the second half where it broke things open with a 62-38 lead going into the fourth. It maintained the cushion throughout the final quarter with the Spartans unable to get any closer than 17.
A tough defensive effort by BVU held Dubuque (4-8, 2-1 A-R-C) to 31 percent shooting and 5-of-27 from long distance. The Beavers also held a 48-38 advantage on the glass.
The win gives the Beavers back-to-back road wins over the Spartans which is the first time it has won consecutive match-ups over them since taking three straight from the end of the 2015-16 season to the end of the 2016-17 campaign. Buena Vista evens its overall record at 7-7 and is now 1-3 in conference play.
Next up will be a trip back to Dubuque, Iowa, next Saturday, Jan. 10, to take on Loras College in a 2 p.m. tipoff.
