Big Second Half Sends Beavers to 90-72 Win over New England

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 21, 2025) - The Buena Vista women's basketball team scored a season-high 59 points in the second half and made 6-of-13 from downtown en route to a convincing 90-72 victory over the University of New England to wrap up play at the Daytona Shootout on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Danika Demers made a career-high 7-of-14 three-point attempts and finished with a career-best 22 points to help lead the charge for the Beavers. Sophomore Bradi Krager registered her third double-double of the year with 18 points and 12 rebounds, junior Mary Walker scored 16 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists, while freshman Adeeya Yanga chipped in with 14 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals.

BVU held New England to only three made field goals in the opening quarter and took an 18-12 lead to the second before the Nor'easters outscored the Beavers 16-14 to get within 31-28 at the half. The third quarter was when BVU took control by knocking down six three-point baskets, including three straight from Demers that pushed the margin up to 61-39 with 1:22 left in the quarter. The Nor'easters managed to roll off eight straight points to make it a 61-47 game going to the fourth.

The Beavers didn't attempt a single three-point shot in the fourth quarter and shot a game-high 66.7 percent from the field over the final 10 minutes of play, The Nor'easters were unable to get any closer than 13 in the quarter with Buena Vista pulling away late in the quarter to lead by 23 in the closing minutes.

Maddy Werner led UNE with 15 points. The Nor'easters shot 35.6 percent from the field and 35 percent from long range. The Beavers finished 11-of-32 from behind the arc and also converted 21-of-28 at the free-throw line.

Buena Vista evens its season record at 6-6 and is now off until the calendar flips to 2026. The team returns to the court on Saturday, Jan. 3 at the University of Dubuque for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
