The two teams finished with three shots apiece during the first half, and the second half was just as evenly matched on both ends. BVU held a slight edge in total shots for the match at 8-7 and both teams had four corner kicks.
Gonzalez, along with senior Kendall Bickford and freshman Bradyen Schwinck, had two shots to lead the way with Bickford turning in a match-high two shots-on-goal.
Zachary Sigler went the distance in-goal for the Beavers and notched his third shutout of the year while registering six saves.
The win over the Pioneers snaps BVU's 12-match losing streak in the series. The Beavers last defeated Grinnell College, 2-1, back in 2007 in a match played in Storm Lake. The Pioneers handed the team a 7-0 defeat inside J. Leslie Rollins Stadium a year ago.
Buena Vista improves to 4-3 on the season and will now begin American Rivers Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Wartburg College. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
