SEASON PREVIEW: Women's Tennis Eager to Begin 2025-26 Campaign

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Aug. 29, 2025) - The Buena Vista University women's tennis team will showcase one of its largest rosters in recent years, and that depth gives the team a great deal of excitement as it heads into the start of the 2025-26 season.

BVU will have four players returning this season that saw significant playing time a year ago. Among that group will be seniors Hailey Meseck and Taylor Fritz who anchored the front-end of both the singles and doubles line-ups. Meseck led the way last season as a junior with a 6-13 overall record in both singles and doubles play. Junior Fiona Astleford and sophomore Allison Cook are also back and played primarily in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots in singles play.

Seventh-year head coach Dan Taylor continues to add depth to his overall roster, and this season proves to be no different. A total of five freshman are set to join the program and compete for playing time while also providing the program with a great deal of depth along the way.

BVU is coming off a 3-18 season overall (0-8 A-R-C) last season. It finished the year by picking up two wins during the spring season and Taylor hopes that momentum carries over into the start of this fall.

We will be young but we'll be ready and super excited to get out and compete throughout the season.

The team opens the 2025-26 schedule on Aug. 30-31 at Cornell College where it will play three total matches over the course of the two days, starting with the host Rams on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. After the busy weekend, the Beavers turn right around and play their home opener and American Rivers Conference opener on Tuesday, Sept. 2, against Central College at 4 p.m.

From there, the team is on the road for five straight matches before closing out the regular season with three straight home matches, including a doubleheader on Friday, Oct. 3 to wrap things up against Coe College (9:30 a.m.) and Luther College (4 p.m.).

The top-six teams from the final A-R-C standings will qualify into the A-R-C Tournament which is held on Oct. 10-11 in Cedar Rapids with Coe College serving as this year's host.
