Men's Tennis Falls 7-0 at Home to Neb. Wesleyan

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Apr. 3, 2025) - The Buena Vista men's tennis team was in action at home on Thursday afternoon for the first time this spring, but the Beavers would fall to visiting Nebraska Wesleyan, 7-0, in an American Rivers Conference match.

Seniors Brock Bruns and Dalton Prego teamed up in a No. 2 doubles match and picked up a strong 6-4 victory but the Prairie Wolves captured wins in the other two outings to win the doubles point.

Nebraska Wesleyan picked up straight set victories in all six singles matches. Bruns fought tough in the opening set of his No. 3 outing before falling in a 7-5 tiebreaker. He then fell in the second set, 6-2.

“It's always hard to swallow a loss, however we fought from the very first point of the day to the very last point of the day and I can't be displeased with that kind of effort and fight,” said BVU head coach Brett Groen. "We were quite literally two or three points away from a couple of games in doubles which would have earned us the doubles point, as well as fueled the team as a whole headed into singles. Take nothing away from Nebraska Wesleyan, as they played very clean and precise, and we fought like crazy and hit some great shots, just weren't able to put away a couple of key points here or there.

Buena Vista now sits at 5-6 overall (0-2 A-R-C). The Beavers will host Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday, Apr. 5 at 1 p.m. The team will also honor its senior class prior to the match.

In addition to it being Senior Day, FREE corn dogs will also be given out until they are gone to all fans in attendance to the match.
