SEASON PREVIEW: Men's Golf to Lean on Veteran Experience in 2025

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Feb. 26, 2025) - The Buena Vista men's golf team is set to tee-off its 2025 spring schedule over spring break next week, and the Beavers are looking to lean on its veteran and experienced returners to make a push up the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) standings.

BVU, despite not having a single senior on the roster, has a full slate of returning individuals this season that have performed well in their careers. Among the group to help lead the way are juniors Matthew Turpen, Kaleb Sander and Mason Laven. Turpen was an all-conference finisher as a freshman in 2023 by tying for 10th. Sander and Laven were one tough round away last spring from being in position to reach all-conference status. All three have averaged rounds in the 70's throughout this fall and looking to make big leaps up the board. As a team, the Beavers placed seventh at last season's championships and were a tough second round away from being right in the mix for a top-five finish.

Sophomores Payton Greenwood, Gabe Kramer and Justin Hanks have also played a handful of rounds in the fall and will add depth to the roster moving forward. Hanks is also a returner from the five-member line-up that played in last spring's A-R-C Championships and he has also turned in a low round of 77 during the fall.

Junior Carson Krogulski, sophomore Nathaniel Hillman and freshman Isaiah Segovia have all played rounds this fall for sixth-year head coach Joe Powell, and each continue to compete for more playing time.

BVU tees-off the spring slate with a trip to Bella Vista, Ark., from Mar. 1-6. The schedule resumes at the end of the month at the Graceland Spring Invite on Mar. 28-29. From there, the Beavers are scheduled to be out on the course each weekend throughout the month of April leading up to the 54-hole A-R-C Men's Golf Championships which take place from Apr. 27-29 at Glenn Oaks Country Club in Des Moines, Iowa.
