Men's Golf Finishes Runner-up at BVU Fall Invite

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 21, 2025) - The Buena Vista men's golf team entered Sunday's final round of the BVU Fall Invite atop the team standings, but the Beavers would fall one spot and settle for runner-up honors despite shooting a strong final round 306.

BVU finished one shot behind champion North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) who matched its opening round score of 302. The Beavers were one stroke better than third-place Iowa Lakes CC and six clear of Simpson College.

Gabe Kramer registered a team-best four birdies en route to a final round 73 and placed fifth overall. Senior Matthew Turpen turned in a 75 to close out his weekend which included a 1-under 35 over his first nine holes of the day. He led BVU with a fourth-place finish. Kaleb Sander had one birdie on the day and finished with a 76. Fellow senior Mason Laven, who was tied for second with Turpen entering the round after 73's on Saturday, had a tougher day to wrap up play and settled for an 83.

Turpen was only two strokes behind individual medalist, Jayden Manthei of Iowa Lakes CC, who fired a final round 3-under par 69. Manthei's teammate, Josh Matheason also turned in a 3-under and was one shot back.

Buena Vista's ‘B’ team turned in a 319 which was one shot higher than yesterday's round as the Beavers placed sixth in the nine team field. Reid Haney led the way with a 78 on Sunday and placed 16th overall.

Next up for BVU will be the Wartburg College Fall Invite which takes place on Saturday, Sept. 27 and Sunday, Sept. 28, in Waverly, Iowa.
