Men's Soccer Handed 5-0 Loss by Spartans in Season Finale

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Oct. 28, 2025) - The Buena Vista men's soccer team hosted the University of Dubuque on Tuesday night in what was the season finale for both teams, but it was the Spartans breaking things open with four second half goals en route to a 5-0 victory.

It was a cold, rainy and windy night inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium, with air temps in the low 40s and wind gusts at times over 30mph which made the feel like temps in the low 30s.

Off a corner kick just under 10 minutes into the match, Dubuque scored an OWN GOAL as the ball deflected off a BVU player coming directly in off the attempt and into the lower back center of the net. That goal stood as the only scoring in the first half as the Spartans held an 11-4 margin in total shots.

It was nearly the same margin in shots over the final 45 minutes but Dubuque made the most of its 11 attempts by scoring four times. The first of those came just over two minutes into the half to make it 2-0 and then the Spartans scored twice over a minute span that pushed it to 4-0. The final one of the night was during the 60'.

Winston Hedvall scored two of the goals to help lead the way for the Spartans (2-11-4, 2-4-2 A-R-C) and tied for second with three total shots.

Freshman Vincent Dempsey led BVU with two shots, including one on-goal while Raymond Hernandez and Kade Stover each chipped in with one shot-on-goal.

Senior Zachary Sigler, playing in his final career game, played the first 60 minutes of the match and made eight saves while fellow senior Cody Fuller came on for the final 30 minutes and would tally a trio of saves.

Buena Vista finishes the season at 5-11-1 (0-8 A-R-C).
