Volleyball with a 3-0 Sweep of Crown

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Oct. 10, 2025) - The Buena Vista volleyball team stepped out of conference play on Friday night and notched a strong 3-0 sweep at home against Crown College before members of the junior varsity faced Western Iowa Tech CC in an exhibition match to close out the night.

BVU used a balanced effort on both sides of the court throughout the match which included a strong effort on the defensive side by holding the Polars to only 13 kills overall and an attack percentage of -.052.

Freshman Charley Hernandez was a force at the net on the offensive side, generating a match-high 14 kills on only two errors for a .364 attack percentage. Sophomore Ashlyne Havermann and junior Sydney Meints each followed with five kills with Havermann also adding a match-high 14 digs.

Senior Olivia Gordon distributed the ball well on the night and dished out a career-best 21 assists.

Hope Vanderlinden, BVU volleyball vs. Crown College

BVU came out with 10 kills and overcame its seven attack errors to hold off the Polars 25-17. It was all Beavers in the second with 12 kills and no errors en route to a 25-12 victory. The third set was back-and-forth most of the way until BVU broke open a 16-13 score by rolling off six of seven points to take control at 22-14. Haley Wieck, who entered the match for the first time late in the set, closed the door on the sweep with a kill on her only attempt of the match.

The Beavers put their junior varsity group out on the court to take on WIT but would fall to the Comets in a thrilling five-set contest.

Both matches on the night were sponsored by Central Bank of Storm Lake.

Buena Vista improves to 6-11 overall and is off until it travels to the University of Dubuque on Friday, Oct. 17 for a 6 p.m. first serve followed by a second straight A-R-C contest on Oct. 18 at Loras College starting at Noon.
