LINCOLN, Neb. (Sept. 30, 2025) - The Buena Vista volleyball team traveled to Neb. Wesleyan on Tuesday night to continue its American Rivers Conference schedule, but the Beavers came up short, 3-0, by scores of 25-20, 25-15, 25-20.
The two teams went back-and-forth throughout a chunk of the opening set as there were six ties and four lead changes. It was all tied at 17-17 late in the set before the Prairie Wolves rolled off four straight points to take a 21-17 lead and never looked back. The Beavers scored back-to-back points to get within three but NWU tallied the final two.
The Prairie Wolves led from start-to-finish in the second set after scoring the first three points. BVU was only able to score back-to-back points only once in the set until NWU was already in front 23-11. The Beavers ran off four straight to make it 23-15 but that would be their final run as NWU scored the final two.Â
BVU held a 6-3 advantage early in the third set after a kill from freshman
Keylee Gregg. It remained in front at 7-4 before NWU rolled off three straight to pull even for the first time since it was 2-2. The Beavers scored four of the next five points to go back in front and continued to lead until a five-point run by the Prairie Wolves came them the lead for good at 16-13. BVU kept things close down the stretch and was within 22-20 but it couldn't put together enough of a run in the end and fell 25-20.
Freshman
Charley Hernandez had a team-high six kills and added 12 digs to help lead the Beavers while Gregg, sophomore
Ashlyne Havermann and junior
Hope Vanderlinden all chipped in with five kills each. Sophomore
Merced Ramirez dished out 18 assists and added 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the year.
Macy Plucker finished with a match-high 13 kills for Neb. Wesleyan, now 11-3 (1-1 A-R-C) on the year. The Prairie Wolves finished with 40 kills overall and a .286 attack percentage.
Buena Vista falls to 5-10 overall (0-2 A-R-C) and is set to return home to Siebens Fieldhouse and Saggau Family Court on Tuesday, Oct. 7, to continue its A-R-C schedule by hosting Wartburg College (11-5, 2-0 A-R-C) at 6 p.m.
