CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Oct. 11, 2025) - The Buena Vista women's tennis team picked up multiple wins during the 2025 A-R-C Women's Tennis Individual Tournament held on Friday and Saturday with Coe College serving as this year's host.
In Flight E singles,
Olivia Gomez and
Charlie Rayford each advanced into Saturday's quarterfinal round of singles play after both were victorious on Friday. Rayford earned a bye to begin her play and then went on to cruise to a 4-0, 4-0 straight set victory which advanced her into the second day. Despite a strong effort in the quarterfinals, she did come up short by falling 4-2, 4-1. Gomez also had a bye in the first round and then found her spot into the quarterfinals after a 4-2, 4-1 triumph.
Appearing in her first tournament, freshman
Abbey Meseck played in the Flight C bracket. She came out and was victorious in her first-ever tournament match by taking a thrilling tiebreaker to win 0-4, 4-1 (10-8). In the second round, the result ended in heartbreaking fashion. After falling 4-0 in the opening set, she rallied to win the second set, 5-3, but the momentum came up a bit short as she fell 10-1 in the tiebreaker.

Macy Weller and freshman
Hannah Higgins each competed in the highly-competitive Flight A bracket. Weller, the 15th overall seed, dropped a 4-2, 4-1 match to 13th-seed Rafaela Toress of Luther. Higgins, meanwhile, the 18th seed, came off a bye and came up short 4-0, 4-1. The duo also teamed up in the Flight A doubles bracket but suffered a 6-0 defeat in their first round.
Meseck and
Fiona Astleford played together for the first time this season in the Flight C doubles bracket and picked up a strong 6-1 victory in their first round match. The duo would come up just short in the round of 16 by falling, 6-4.
The tournament ends the fall season for the Beavers. A full spring schedule for the team will be posted to the team's website when it becomes available.
