COLLEGEVILLE, Minn (Jan. 18, 2025) - The Buena Vista University men's wrestling team traveled up north for a non-conference dual on Saturday night at Saint John's University (Minn.), but the Beavers came up short against the Johnnies, 38-12.
The dual began at 285 pounds with Saint John's grabbing the early 12-0 lead with back-to-back falls. Senior
Nolan Nguyen put BVU on the board with a second period fall of his own and cut the deficit in half at 12-6. It marks his second fall of the season
At 141 pounds, the Johnnies would get the six points back after recording its third fall of the dual, but senior
Hayden Stout kept the Beavers within striking distance at 18-9 with a hard fought 9-6 decision over Jose de los Santos.
Saint John's followed with back-to-back major decisions at 157 and 165 and then closed out the dual with forfeit wins at both 174 and 197, respectively. In between the two forfeits, junior
Trevor Kruse recorded a 6-1 decision for the Beavers' final win.
Kruse, Stout and Nguyen each move into a tie for second on the team with six wins this season.
Buena Vista is now 1-7 in duals overall and is set to take part in the annual A-R-C Duals on Saturday, Jan. 25, at Pella. BVU is scheduled to go up against Central, Dubuque and Wartburg.
