WAVERLY, Iowa (Sept. 29, 2024) - Matthew Turpen fired a 1-under 71 in Sunday's final round of the Wartburg College Fall Invite and moved up the leaderboard to claim individual medalist honors for the Beavers.
Turpen, who began the day tied for fifth, was one of three golfers in the field to go under par for the round which left him into a tie for the individual lead with Wartburg's Josh Nichols. Turpen had the better final round score to earn him medalist honors. He's the first Beaver men's golfer to win an individual medalist since John Bral won the BVU Spring Invite in 2015.
Gabe Kramer was next for BVU in a tie for 10th after tallying a 76. Kaleb Sander shaved three shots off his opening round score to finish with a 77 on Sunday and land in a tie for 15th. Mason Laven matched his round of 80 on Saturday and was three shots back of Sander in a tie for 22nd. Payton Greenwood carded an 84 for the second straight day and came in tied for 28th.
Justin Hanks matched Sander's 77 with one of his own and tied Sander for 15th overall. He along with Ethan Peterson (80) and Isaiah Segovia (87) golfed the event as individuals.
As a team, the Beavers posted a round of 304 to finish with a 36-hole of 615 and took third overall. The host Knights tied with Hawkeye Community College in the team race after both teams finished with an overall score of 599.
