LINCOLN, Neb. (Apr. 9, 2024) - The Buena Vista men's tennis team continued its schedule and returned to American Rivers Conference play on Tuesday afternoon at Nebraska Wesleyan but the Beavers dropped a hard fought 9-0 match to the Prairie Wolves at the LSF Sports Complex.
NWU opened the match by winning 8-4 decisions at both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles following an 8-2 win at No. 1.
There were several nail-biting sets played throughout singles, highlighted by a three-set tiebreaker involving Ryan Webb at No. 3. Webb started strong with a 6-4 win in the opening set before dropping the second, 6-1. The tiebreaker was nothing short of gut-wrenching before Webb would eventually drop the set, 14-12.
Daniel Vargas played a tight match at No. 6 singles despite falling in straight sets, 7-6, 7-6, which included an 8-6 tiebreaker in the opening set.
Buena Vista is now 3-9 overall (1-1 A-R-C) and returns to action on Friday, Apr. 12 for a non-conference match at Crown College starting at 12 p.m. before returning home on Saturday, Apr. 13, to host Wartburg College in an A-R-C clash at 4 p.m.
