WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (Apr. 30, 2024) - The Buena Vista University men's golf team wrapped up the American Rivers Conference Championships on Tuesday afternoon and moved back up one spot to take seventh overall with a final round 309.
Sophomore Matthew Turpen bounced back from one of his worst scores of the spring during Monday's second round to post a (+1) 72 on Tuesday. He got off to a blistering start with four birdies on the front nine and was 3-under on his round through eight holes. A bogey on the ninth slowed down that momentum just a bit, as he had just one birdie over the final nine holes. He ended the championships with a tough double-bogey six on the par-4 18th hole and took 23rd place overall.
Fellow sophomore Kaleb Sander finished his championships on a strong note as well by carding his lowest round of the 54-hole event with a 76. He shot a three-over 39 on the back nine and carded six pars during that stretch. He bumped himself up a couple spots on the leaderboard and tied for 31st.
Freshman Cooper Sebastian birdied two of his first three holes and was 2-under early in his final round but was hindered by the next two holes where he went a combined 5-over par. He did settle back in and was only three-over on the final 13 holes and turned in his best round of the championships at 77.
