DECORAH, Iowa (Feb. 8, 2024) - The Buena Vista men's wrestling team went on the road Thursday night to wrap up its regular season, but the Beavers were dealt a tough 49-9 loss by #22 Luther College.
The Norse went up 6-0 after winning by forfeit at 125, but BVU got wins in two of the first three matches wrestled and trailed only 11-9 heading into 157 pounds. Nolan Nguyen picked up a big 19-11 major decision at 133 to put the Beavers on the board en route to his ninth win of the season before #9 Axel Hernandez got the team within two points following a commanding 17-2 technical fall in the last 30 seconds. He's now 19-2 on the year.
From there, Luther registered three straight technical falls before notching a pin to pull away for a 32-9 lead. The Beavers were then open at the final two weights that led to the final score.
Buena Vista wraps up the dual season at 2-9 overall (1-7 A-R-C). The team now preps itself for the NCAA Lower Midwest Regionals in Springfield, Ill., on March 1-2.
