WAVERLY, Iowa (Feb. 18, 2024) - The Buena Vista cheer and dance teams competed on Sunday afternoon during the 2024 American Rivers Conference Cheer & Dance Competition, hosted inside of Levick Arena by Wartburg College, and the Beavers came in fifth overall among the six competing teams.

The Beavers best division finish came in their pom routine where they placed second with 76.57 points. They finished only behind Central College which totaled 81.23 points in the routine. BVU went on to place fourth in the hip hop division and sixth in the jazz division.

The Dutch claimed the overall team championship by earning an average overall score of 83.07. The Beavers, despite placing fifth, only finished 0.33 points behind both Simpson and Wartburg, which tied for third with an overall average of 74.05.

In addition to the dance routines, Buena Vista also had three cheer groups take part in a STUNT routine, along with one team from Wartburg. The Knights scored the highest with 33.90 points while BVU's group No. 3 took second with 30.33 points.

Junior Libby Birdsell was recognized during the awards ceremony as an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection.
