Dance Turns in Stellar Performance at ISDTA Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa (Nov. 30, 2023) - The Buena Vista University dance team competed in the college dance championships, hosted by the Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Association. The Beavers captured Division I ratings in every category in which they performed, bringing home trophies in each.

Competing against other NCAA Division III schools, the BVU team placed third in pom, third in hip hop, and second in jazz.

“The team had three incredible performances today. Their athleticism was outstanding,” said Kezia Molinsky, BVU Director of Cheer & Dance. “I am so proud of the long hours of hard work they have been putting in to create such beautiful routines.”

“We were one of two teams to place in all three categories, which is a huge accomplishment," said junior Libby Birdsell.  "I'm so proud of the big dance team and everything we accomplished today.”

“Our team placed in all three last year, and that was one of our goals for this year,” added sophomore Kenna Kasel. "I think especially placing better in two of those categories is awesome."

The event is in its 48th season and is the largest high school dance competition in the United States. This marks the 17th year in which it has also included college competition, with more than 20 schools participating.

The Beaver dance team, under the direction of Kezia Molinsky and Tori Stille, will next compete at the American Rivers Conference Competitive Cheer and Dance Championship on Feb. 18.
