Men's Wrestling with Fast Start en route to 42-8 Victory over Minnesota West

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Nov. 15, 2024) - The Buena Vista University men's wrestling team scored bonus points in each of the first six matches and that aided the Beavers as they rolled to a 42-6 victory over Minnesota West Community & Technical College inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.

Freshman Jesus Olivares took the mat for his first collegiate dual at 125 pounds and took charge from the opening whistle and cruised to a 22-2 technical fall early in the third period. Junior Tyler Japp picked up a forfeit at 133 before Tein Pham and Hayden Stout helped the Beavers begin to pull away at 23-0 with back-to-back falls at 141 and 149, respectively. Pham pinned his opponent early in the second period for his first career victory with Stout notching his first fall of the year and improving to 2-3 overall.

Jaxon Mikolyzk, BVU men's wrestling vs. Minnesota West

Freshman Jaxon Mikolyzk made his home debut at 157 pounds and took control en route to a 12-1 victory for his first collegiate victory. Fellow freshman Aiden Kirk, who was victorious during the Beavers dual earlier in the week, won by forfeit in this one which gave the team a commanding 33-0 cushion.

The Bluejays got on the board at 174 and 184 with consecutive major decision victories before BVU closed the door with wins at 197 and 285. Freshman Reise Davis was victorious for the first time in his college career with a hard fought 5-0 decision in his 197 match. Sophomore Colton O'Hern was in front of his match before his opponent was forced to end things early due to injury default.

Buena Vista improves to 1-1 on the year and returns to action next Thursday, November 21 at Loras College to begin its American Rivers Conference schedule. The dual is set to begin at 7 p.m.
