Men's Wrestling Drops a Pair of Matches against Ranked A-R-C Foes

WAVERLY, Iowa (Jan. 20) - The Buena Vista men's wrestling team took part in the American Rivers Conference Duals on Saturday hosted by Wartburg College, but the Beavers would fall to No. 16 Central, No. 1 Wartburg and also the University of Dubuque.

BVU faced the Dutch to begin the day and after a pin by Nolan Nguyen (133) and a major decision by Axel Hernandez (149), the Beavers trailed just 12-10.

Central, however, then secured back-to-back falls followed by a technical fall and pulled away for a 29-10 lead. The Dutch won by forfeit at 197 before BVU's Kail Shannon was edged in overtime, 4-1.

The top-ranked Knights picked by bonus points in 9-of-10 weights and rolled to the win over BVU. Hernandez dropped a narrow 13-8 nailbiter for just his second loss of the season.

The Beavers closed out the day against the Spartans with their only victory being a 10-1 major decision by Hernandez, who improved to 13-2 on the year.

Buena Vista is now 1-8 on the year (0-6 A-R-C) and is scheduled to take part in the annual Peter Willson Invite, hosted by Wheaton College, on Jan. 26-27.
